Happy Fall! The season of apple pies, pumpkins, county fairs, and marathon tv watching has finally arrived. I like to sprinkle my home with seasonal decor, sights, and sounds. Today, I’m sharing with you how I’m making room for seasonal decor in partnership with Extra Space Storage.
The key to making room for seasonal decor is understanding what spaces you like to update seasonally and having a storage solution for that decor. Let’s start with the tools.
Making Room for Seasonal Decor
The 5 Tools you need to be successful
- Clear Storage Bins
- Label Maker
- Tissue Paper
- Silica Gel
- Knowing your Space
I like to store all my seasonal decor in clear bins with labels. It makes it easy to identify contents. The labels can be removed without much effort as you purge and acquire new items. Speaking of purging this is something you should do seasonally. If you don’t like it and its broken then its time to give it away, donate or trash.
Space-Saving Tip: If you like a balanced design. Always buy in pairs for example candlesticks or pumpkins. Then pair it with a smaller decorative object. Then you always have something that works. Prevents overbuying and not having the right things to style a space.
Now that you have the storage system down. Take an honest assessment of your current space. Determine what areas of your home you would like to decorate seasonally. Keep this in mind when buying things. This keeps you honest with the space you have. You will not overbuy for one area and while others go without.
Within my home, I like to decorate my mantel, coffee table, and dining room. Also, remember seasonal decor is more than the items you place around but also include the textures, sounds, and smells.
I like to adjust the screensaver on my TV, buy seasonal candles and then layer with textured items like blankets. These things work hand-in-hand with the seasonal decor pieces. Then don’t forget the soups that fill the house with the best smells. So remember it doesn’t take a room full of things to make a home feel like Fall.
Halloween & Fall Decor Tour
In my dining room, I always decorate my buffet with candy and seasonal decor. The pumpkin is for Halloween and can easily be turned around for Thanksgiving and Fall.
Space-Saving Tip: Buy pumpkins that have a jack-o-lantern faces & then turn pumpkin around once Halloween passes. Now you have a pumpkin for Fall/ Thanksgiving. This helps with the amount of space you need to store items.
Mantel Decor
I also like to change out my mantel decor. This year I kept it softer with pinks, teals, and greens to balance the color in living space. The pumpkins are jack-o-lanterns right now but will be just pumpkins for Thanksgiving.
My final decor updates are about comfort and enjoying moments in the main living space. I have added touches of fall with textures using blankets, candles and updating my tv screen saver. Its the little things that make it feel like Fall.
Space-Saving Tip: If you don’t have space to store items at home. You can always use Extra Space Storage.
